Panama City Beach Fishing
Red Snapper decision made Thursday...The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted unanimously Thursday to maintain the Gulf of Mexico recreational red snapper season from April 15 to Oct. 31, but reduced the red snapper bag limit from four fish to two fish per person per day.
It is nice to have the opportunity to fish a longer season. The limit reduction seems like a good compromise.

Bay County TDC to Meet Today
The Bay County Tourist Development Council (the TDC) will host a long-term strategic planning session today at the Edgewater Beach Resort convention center at 520 Beckrich Road. The meeting will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to the public.
The TDC meeting comes on the heels of a meeting yesterday of more than 100 local government representatives and members of the Beach tourism industry, Peter Yesawich, CEO of the Orlando-based marketing firm Ypartnership, said four new trends in leisure travel are redefining how hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions can succeed in an ever-more competitive environment.
The trends are:
1. Tourism via the internet – ever expanding use of the web to book travel
2. Changing social values – trend to want to spend more time with family and friends
3. Vigilante consumers – tourists expect to bargain and receive discounts
4. Demographic changes – changes to market to “baby boomers”
Yesawich indicated that the opening of the new Panama City Airport would cause a dramatic increase in tourism in the area.

Panama City Beach Airport News
This may be a monster week for Panama City Beach. Florida. On Wednesday the construction issue will be heard in a New York federal appeals court. Meanwhile the Corps of Engineers has suspended the 404 permit for the new airport.
While all of this has been going on Airport Authority officials are optimistic a $575,000 federal grant to generate additional airline service to Panama City-Bay County International Airport will bring prompt results. The potential airlines targeted under the service expansion are USAir (Charlotte), Delta Airlines and American Airlines (Dallas-Fort Worth), and Continental Airlines (Houston). Under the grant provisions, an airline must agree to create a flight that has a minimum of three arrivals and departures per day.
More on this later in the week.
