Global Warming Fact Or Myth?

Article Taken from;http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature...ticle10866.htm

Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on.
No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

A compiled list of all the sources can be seen here. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to wipe out nearly all the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year's time. For all four sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.

Scientists quoted in a past DailyTech article link the cooling to reduced solar activity which they claim is a much larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases. The dramatic cooling seen in just 12 months time seems to bear that out. While the data doesn't itself disprove that carbon dioxide is acting to warm the planet, it does demonstrate clearly that more powerful factors are now cooling it.

Let's hope those factors stop fast. Cold is more damaging than heat. The mean temperature of the planet is about 54 degrees. Humans -- and most of the crops and animals we depend on -- prefer a temperature closer to 70.

Historically, the warm periods such as the Medieval Climate Optimum were beneficial for civilization. Corresponding cooling events such as the Little Ice Age, though, were uniformly bad news.

While I think this provides mild evidence, I await what to see what happens over the course of the next few years to make any sort of conclusive decision.

Panama City Beach Airport

For now the new Bay County International Airport is moving forward. Despite the lawsuits, Randy Curtis, the airport's executive director, said it appears the construction schedule is on track for the new airport to open in early 2010.
The airport has withstood legal challenges from environmentalists, a local pilots group and others who have argued it is unnecessary and will destroy environmentally sensitive wetlands. The lawsuits continue but the future of the new airport — the first since Sept. 11, 2001 — appears increasingly certain to both supporters and opponents.
"We did our battle and we were unsuccessful," said Fred Werner, a Panama City pharmacist and amateur pilot whose organization, Friends of PFN — the FAA's designation for the existing Panama City airport — sued to block the new airport.
And the airport? More people can not enjoy the beauty of Panama City Beach if they can access the region. Currently, only 8 percent of the people that come to these beautiful beaches are flying. Millions of people come to the beach every year but most of them drive. Over the long-term the market will expand with the airport.

Panama City Beach - Tax Scams Beware

Florida Beware...

The State Attorney's Office is warning consumers to beware of a series of scams regarding tax returns:
Phony IRS emails: The IRS does not use email to contact taxpayers. You may receive an email which reads "IRS Notification" in the subject line and may include a realistic IRS logo. The claim is that a tax refund -- maybe from a prior year -- is due and that the consumer should complete and fax the attached form or click on a link to submit personal information directly to the IRS. This is a scam. Do not provide your personal or financial information in this manner.
False "bank" correspondence and phony forms: Mail or email claiming to be from the consumer's bank and requesting an update of records should raise a red flag. An area bank's logo and phone number were recently high-jacked in such an effort. Remember, your bank has your information -- including your account number -- and will not request that information by telephone or internet. If you are suspicious about any mail or email claiming to be from your bank, then call the bank! Do not share your personal or financial information with anyone you do not trust.
If you have any questions or suspect that you may have been targeted by such a scam, call your local law enforcement agency or the State Attorney's Office.

Panama City Beach- Mascot Stolen from Magnolia Grill!

Residents be aware that a pudgy 5-foot 9 man with a Mediterranean features that has a pencil mustache and a funny hat has been stolen. Named “Luigi”, the mascot, made of fiberglass, was taken from Magnolia Grill on Sunday the 17th during the annual International Food and Wine Tasting Festival. This took place at Emerald Coast conference Center on Okaloosa Island.

Tom and Peggy Rice, Magnolia Girl owners, hope that Luigi will be returned soon in the same condition he left. This man has sentimental value to the restaurant owners, and was a birthday present that cost somewhere around 700 dollars.

Tips leading to the return of Luigi may warrant a reward!

Panama City Beach- Nascar

Congratulations to Ryan Newman for winning the Daytona 500. It was a great race, and I really enjoyed watching it. I was pulling for Jr. But it is fun to see Penske win the 500. I was also disapponted to see Gordon go down when as he did, bad luck for hendricks racing.

How did your favorite driver do?
