Tourist Development Panama City Beach
The Bay County Tourist Development Council met Tuesday and the consensus was for Bay County to succeed in keeping the Beach competitive as a tourism destination, it will require increased cooperation among competing businesses, a significantly larger investment in promotion and marketing, and better communication between the industry itself and both county political leaders and ordinary citizens.
The all day meeting provided the opportunity for participants to voice opinions and suggestions ranging from the new airport, to development of new tourist attractions such as a convention center. Seems like convention centers are a common proposed solution to attraction tourists. Nashville is also looking into the possibility of a new convention center.
The participant inputs are to be compiled into a draft strategy document by March 1 that will be presented to the TDC board for review during its April meeting. The goal is to approve and publish a formal five-year strategic plan by June 1.

Panama City Beach Condo Market 2007
The Florida Association of Realtors released 2007 existing condominium sales numbers in Panama City on Thursday. There was good news and bad news in the results. During 2007, 483 condos were sold compared to 352 in 2006 or a 37% increase. However the 2007 year-end median sales price for area existing condominiums declined 11 percent, to $280,100.
The current market is ripe with good deals for buyers.

Airport Update Panama City on January 23,2008
The critical hearing on whether construction can proceed was argued in a Manhattan federal courtroom Wednesday morning. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to issue a ruling that will either block construction of the new Panama City-Bay County International airport, allow construction of the airport to begin. If the issue is resolved favorably in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals the airport officials will still have to work with the Corps of Engineers to reinstate the 404 permit for the airport construction. There was no indication made today as to how soon the appellate judges will issue their ruling.
Hopefully the Airport Authority attorney and the Department of Justice attorney representing the FAA were on top of their game today!
